I have been having a lot of chats with friends and colleagues this week about AI, LLMs and all things that might change in the future around the world. It’s difficult to not talk about these things these days. As much as I am excited about learning LLMs and using more of AI as part of my work and improving my productivity, there are a lot of concerns about how it affects future employment.

This post is not to talk about that though. There are enough blog posts talking about that.

I woke up this morning remembering Things 3. Why did I remember Things? It was being discussed in a podcast that I was listening to, and they spoke about how it was a three-person team who were building the product used by thousands and hopefully millions. There are so many such tools that I use on a regular basis. I am writing this blog post on iA Writer, which I will then export to Grammarly to check for spelling mistakes and grammar and then finally post to Micro.blog. I use Zed as my programming editor, 1Password as a password manager, and TablePlus to manage my databases. You see where I am going with this. There is not one company that builds all of this. I like it this way. Many independent companies building tools they enjoy building which I get to choose from.

My concern, though, is that as AI and LLMs drive more changes in the technology world and push prices down, will these companies survive? I hope they do. I hope they have figured out how to survive the next 5-10-15-20 years. I am cheering for you guys from the sideline.
