In Love with What AI Brings Out
If you work in tech, it’s difficult to go a day without hearing the word “AI.” I managed to escape hearing it for a week last week because I was travelling and away from my computer. I’ve been back for three days now, and I’m already hearing all about AI.
It’s been great, though. I’ve been enjoying using LLMs as part of my everyday workflow. It’s made me quicker at what I do, and I think I’ve found a good balance between where I use it and where I let my brain do what I enjoy. This post isn’t about the productivity part of AI.
What I have a problem with is a few people looking down on others or almost dismissing someone’s skill because LLMs could do it faster. Are you a designer? “We don’t need designers anymore because I can get a prompt to generate what I need.” Are you an accountant? “I can feed my books to an LLM tool that will do all the work for me.” Are you a copywriter? “We don’t need that anymore because LLMs can do it better.” Are you a programmer? “We won’t need programmers because LLMs can now create almost everything. I don’t know why we need programmers anymore.”
It’s been enlightening, though. It helps me understand people and decide who to work with after I have these conversations.
If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all. It’s not always the best advice, but if you’re talking to someone about the services they provide, don’t come across as insulting.
